Played on foot in real Vienna
SHIFT

The city is the game.

A tactical game you play on foot, in real Vienna. Take the city one hex at a time, raid the garrisons holding its best loot, and haul it home. The farther out you go, the more you can carry back, and the more you stand to lose on the way.

A campaign in an alternate near-future city altered by the Shift.

Free to play. Vienna only, for now.

Move

Your feet are the controller

Where you stand in Vienna is where you stand in the game. Walk into a hex to loot it and take it. Move quicker to scout what's further out. You cover the whole city on foot, one hex at a time.

Talk

The survivors have work for you

People are still out there between the factions, and they need things done. Escort a sealed medical cache through patrol ground. Trace the routing orders a dead AI started sending again. Get a shipment to the community counting on it — or hand it to the people who want it buried. Contacts send you across real Vienna, some make you pick a side, and they pay in gear, materials, and a straighter answer about what the Shift did.

Fight

Counter the garrison. Take the hex.

Every garrison defends with its own mix of units — some heal, some throw smoke, some eat through your armor. You build a squad to counter it and send them in, and the server plays the fight out unit by unit. Lose troops and they're gone for good. Win and the hex is yours, until its garrison rebuilds and you have to take it again.

Loot

Hospitals. Universities. Castles.

What a hex holds depends on what it was before the Shift. The grand old institutions hold the richest loot — blueprints, rare materials, weapons, Shift residue — and they're guarded to match. The better the haul, the harder the fight to reach it.

Extract

Getting home is the whole game

The farther out you raid, the more you can carry back, and the more you'll lose if the run home goes wrong. Once you start extracting, the outcome is set. Make it home and everything you carried is yours to spend: build new units, strengthen your base, and head out farther next time.

The world

One hundred years after the Shift

Nobody agrees on what the Shift was — an atmospheric event, a cascade failure, something that should never have been possible. Everyone agrees on the after: the world that came out the other side is not the one that went in.

Vienna settled into uneasy zones, carved out by geography and the slow warfare of its factions. The Edge communities scrape by between them, the Baronies run the autofactories, and every hex still carries the loot — and the danger — of whatever it used to be.

Factions

Four powers, one fractured city

A century after the Shift, four powers carve up Vienna — three certain they alone understand what happened, and one that simply runs the factories and sells to them all. The ground between them is yours to take.

Continuity faction — an officer in blue with armored troops behind her
CONTINUITY
Strength and Continuity

What's left of institutional authority. They keep the hospitals lit and the water running — through real competence, and enforcement that's grown hard to tell apart from control. And they hold data about the Shift that they share with no one.

Sublimate faction — a scientist with a laptop among salvaged tech
SUBLIMATE
Science knows no compromise

Scientists and engineers running on cold, vindicated fury, with an AI seated in the inner circle. They get results — shielding, adaptations, tech that simply works. What it costs, they keep off the books.

Meridian faction — a white-tattooed oracle in a misty field
MERIDIAN
Hear the message

Part research order, part religion, grown out of the atmospheric networks. Their oracles enter receptive states to read the signal; every full member wears a facial tattoo. What they hear sets the faction's course.

Baronies faction — a smug industrial boss in a red-lit room
BARONIES
The underworld is alive

The families that hold the autofactories — the only places still turning Shift-scrap into gear, ammunition, and working parts. They bow to no faction and sell to all of them, and the price climbs the moment you've nowhere else to go.
